An Evening in London - 8:00 pm Sat. April 14, 2012 - $35 General, $25 Seniors 60+ and $15 College rate

Ever popular British composer Vaughn Willams (1872-1958) created some of the most heavenly music, such as his “Fantasia on Greensleeves”, but his compositions don’t offer piano trio music for our Timeless Concerts ensemble. However, we were pleased to find that he wrote a beautiful, though not often heard “Romance for Violin” with piano accompaniment - even if our cellist is left out for this one piece! Vaughn Williams was inspired by English folk songs and carols, as well as lovely English gardens and the picturesque countryside. These thoughtful, peaceful moments are well depicted in his “Romance” as well as his “Six Studies in English Folksong”, also to be included on the program. Frank Bridge, a Brit of Vaughn Williams’ generation, but lesser known, did compose  piano trios. We will perform the Bridge “Phantasie Trio”, composed in 1907.  Its various movements are described as “melancholy”, “warm and romantic”, “expressive, relaxed melody”, “playful”, “animated” and “joyous”.  These compositions are true treasures that have been a joy for us to perform.*

An Evening in Prague, 1883 - 8:00 pm Sat. June 23, 2012 - $35 General, $25 Seniors 60+ and $15 College rate
Find your inner gypsy! Celebrate the music of Antonin Dvorak, (1841-1904) a Czech composer of the late Romantic music, who employed the idioms of the folk music of his native Bohemia. In 1892, Dvorak became the director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York City. Although he missed his homeland, he loved America and wished to discover a real “American Music” and engage in it, much as he had utilized Czech folk music. He believed that African-American and Native American music should be used as a foundation for the growth of American music, and felt that through this music Americans would find their own national style. We’ll perform the Dvorak Piano Trio #4, and close the concert with one of his Slavonic Dances which will make you wish you knew the dance steps! Another interesting Czech composer, Joseph Suk, was a student of Dvorak and became Dvorak’s son-in-law, when he married his eldest daughter. We will also perform a portion of the Suk Piano Trio in C.* >>Arlington Musuem of Art
